Katherina Minardo, Sculptor

Home of THE GUARDIAN, THE WARRIOR, and THE PRINCE

OCTOBER NATIONAL GALLERY OF THAILAND, BANGKOK, THAILAND

1991, 7 TO 25 OCTOBER

After the closing at Kuching, the works were re-crated and placed in storage pending a Singapore exhibition, which ultimately did not happen due to the discovery of termite infestation and the consequent loss of strength in the floor of the historical Museum building. Thus the final exhibition in the Asia Tour was at Bangkok’s National Gallery of Thailand, where Katherina had been invited to introduce her works to an entirely new audience.

This event opened 7 October 1991. The Guest of Honour was Thanphuying Sumalee Chartikavanij, who is considered the Mother Theresa of Thailand for her work with needy women. Canadian High Commissioner (ambassador) Garrett Lambert and his wife Nicole Perron were the hosts along with the Thai government.

The Guestbook became completely full, so we presumably missed many of those who would have left a message. One memorable message that did appear was from a British tourist, who said “Why do we have to travel so far to see Katherina’s work?”
